EnerCom Energy Solutions
Does your businesses energy bill have a KVA Demand charge?
Most businesses that use high energy consumption would be on a KVA Demand tariff, to help explain this the Maximum Demand (kVA) is your Peak demand of electricity from the grid. It’s not the same as the amount of energy you use. For example; if you turned on all your electrical devices at the same time, and then turned them off, you might not have used much energy in that time, but you will have had a peak of demand.
Why is this important to understand? Its because your energy distribution company (Network) charges you for the maximum demand, so it costs you money. The Maximum Demand is set at a rating typically of 100kVA or higher, and you will be charged based on the rate set. Each distributor has its own set of tariffs and demand charges; therefore it is important to ensure your KVA demand is not only on the correct demand tariff but that the amount of KVAs that you are charged are correct.
How can you ensure it is set correctly? You would need to analyse your peak demand for over 12 months. The simplest way to do that is to opt for our Bill Validation Services, this is an automated service which analyses your data in 15-minute intervals and provides a report at the end of each month which outlines what your billed KVA demand is compared to what your actual highest KVA demand was direct from your interval data readings. If we identify a discrepancy, your dedicated Enercom Energy consultant will quickly have this rectified to the correct amount, and may even be able to request for this to be backdated retrospectively to create additional savings in bill credits.
Demand optimisation through bill validation could save you thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars per year.
